Mid-Coast Trolley Construction, SANDAG Project

Genesee Avenue
Crews will continue to remove falsework, the temporary framework used to support a structure during its construction, along Genesee Avenue over the next several weeks. Falsework has been removed from Eastgate Mall to Executive Drive and electrical systems are being installed at all Trolley stations. The final deck pour along Genesee Avenue is planned to occur in mid-November, and concrete finishing work will take place over the next several months. Overall construction in this area will continue over the next year.

Voigt Drive
Work has begun on a project to realign the intersection of Campus Point Drive and Voigt Drive and to widen Voigt Drive to accommodate the future Trolley station. Construction impacts in this area will continue through November and will include intermittent nighttime closures on Voigt Drive to allow for utility work, setting k-rail (concrete barriers) and other construction activities. Anticipated in November, speed will be reduced along Voigt Drive west of Campus Point Drive, and bike lanes in this location will also be removed. Cyclists should be advised lanes in this area will now be shared with vehicle traffic.

Nobel Viaduct
Construction continues along the Nobel viaduct, the section of the Trolley bridge between Charmant Drive and the VA Medical Center. In mid-November, overnight full closures of I-5 will be required for crews to pour concrete along the Trolley overcrossing south of Nobel Drive. Notices will be posted to ShiftSanDiego.com in advance of the closures.

Rose Canyon Bike Path, SANDAG Project

A full closure of the Rose Canyon Bike Path is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, for crews to complete construction of the realigned bike path. The closure will be in place for approximately four days, and the bike path is anticipated to reopen by 6 p.m. on Friday, November 22. Shuttles will be deployed to transport bicyclists around the closure area. A notice will be issued in the upcoming weeks with more details on this closure.

Southbound I-5 Auxiliary Lane, SANDAG Project

The I-5/Genesee Avenue Auxiliary Lane project will construct a new southbound auxiliary lane between Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive. The auxiliary lane will improve merging patterns and traffic flow on I-5 between the two intersections. Current work includes hauling materials, constructing drainage systems and preparing the site for paving.

Work on drainage systems is underway for the new SB I-5 auxiliary lane

Fire Station 50, City of San Diego Project

Fire Station 50, to be located on the southeast corner of Nobel Drive and Shoreline Drive, is anticipated to open late summer or fall 2020. Current construction includes the completion of rough framing for the upper and lower level roofs and the continuation of electrical and plumbing installation. Revegetation areas are scheduled to be seeded and planted through the end of October. In addition, work on the east side driveway, including the curb, gutter and trench drain, will continue into early November.

Scripps La Jolla Campus Parking Garage and Bridge, Private Project

A 2,000-car parking garage will be built on the Scripps La Jolla campus for both patient and employee parking. In addition, a bridge will be built across Scripps Health Drive to connect the structure to the Anderson Pavilion. Current work includes on-site concrete deck pours that will continue through 2019.
