Genesee Avenue
Crews are continuing to remove falsework along Genesee Avenue, ending at the Executive Drive and UTC Trolley stations. Full closures of Genesee Avenue will be in place from Sunday, Jan. 26 through Thursday, Jan. 30, and again from Sunday, Feb. 2 through Thursday, Feb. 6 to remove falsework and place pedestrian walkways. Timing for both closures is as follows:

  • Northbound full closures of Genesee Avenue from La Jolla Village Drive to Executive Drive from 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. each night
Overall construction in this area will continue through November 2020, including fill, overlay and restriping for final configuration.

Nobel Drive
Construction continues along the Nobel viaduct, the section of the Trolley bridge that extends between Charmant Drive and the VA Medical Center and crosses Interstate 5 (I-5) just south of Nobel Drive. Full closures of I-5 are anticipated in early March to remove falsework from the freeway overcrossing. Notices will be posted to ShiftSanDiego.com in advance of the closures.

Parking Structure at La Jolla Village Square
Construction for the Nobel Drive Trolley Station parking structure began in late January in a section of the La Jolla Village Square parking area. All construction activities are taking place within the fenced work area and access to businesses and shops will be maintained throughout construction. Once complete, the parking structure will provide spaces for transit patrons and retail customers and will include a direct walkway to the Nobel Drive Trolley Station. The structure is anticipated to be completed in November 2020.

Southbound I-5 Auxiliary Lane, Managed by Caltrans/Mid-Coast Trolley Constructors

Construction of a new southbound auxiliary lane between Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive is underway. The new lane will help improve traffic flow and merging patterns on I-5, allowing motorists to remain in one lane from the time they merge onto southbound I-5 from Genesee Avenue to the time they exit onto La Jolla Village Drive. Current work includes paving for the new lane. Construction is anticipated to be completed in summer 2020.

Scripps La Jolla Campus Parking Garage D, Private Project

A 2,000-car parking garage is being built on the Scripps La Jolla campus for both patient and employee parking. In addition, a bridge will be built across Scripps Health Drive to connect the structure to the Anderson Pavilion upon completion of the parking garage. The parking garage is expected to “top out,” or have the final piece of the structural framework installed, by late February. The scheduled completion for the parking garage is summer 2020.

UC San Diego Mesa Housing Pedestrian and Bike Bridge, UC San Diego Project

A ribbon-cutting for the Mesa Housing Pedestrian and Bike Bridge is anticipated for late February to commemorate the opening of the bridge, which will provide a direct route for pedestrians and bicyclists between Mesa Housing, East Campus Medical Center and the Main Campus and will improve mobility for residents, students and staff. Occasional lane closures on Medical Center Drive South and Miramar Street will be taking place as construction wraps up.
